Water Falls...

Water Falls…
Doesn’t ask where the journey’s taking it, just free-falls
Excited to be in the moment,
Like a parachuting cowboy yelling hee-haw/

Crevices and cracks,
Squirts leaking from tight cracks, climbing stacked racks.
You on a beach thinking naughty thoughts of bikini women lying on their backs…

Leaky plumbing - bathroom,
on vacation, storm’s outside, gettin’ it on in a bathroom in Cancun/
Makin’ noise like fans-do/ interrupted by housekeeping - vacuum/

Week After Weak

Pulling yourself from the depths, focusing too much on the heft
not adding to the situation’s breadth.

Stumbling more than a broken ladder - yeah life’s not fair,
something’s always shaking the ladder.

Work has cracks and creaks/ make you bend and bow, when success knocks, your lips too weak/ to speak/  - your eyes in disbelief/ so they weep.

At that moment, you realize fear-flees/ listen to courage’s voice, “Hear-me”/ put into action the things I speak./  Inspire others no matter the week,
because you never know how strong you are, until you inspire the weak/
… Finally… You’re no longer weak.

You In You

Bravado with no action/ class action lawsuit/ suin’ you for not suitin’ up
No proper passion/ got the tree, no intentions of fruit/ in its roots.
Braggin’/ thinkin’ its cute/ full of beans but can’t let out a toot.

You backwards doesn’t make sense, get the spelling right, spell your spelling bee the right way, no one else has your definition, nor can pronounce it your way.

Show the confidence in you, the time-in-tense should not be you, right here, fear of past and future tense, yeah it tenses up, it wants you to to forget the present  and hold on to the what’s already done/ and what’s not even seen future Suns/…

Write Inside

Dim light, it’s getting hard to see the pencil strokes - you-see.
I sit here late at night, reading posts, tell me to keep up the in-ten-sity.

Someone should tell the same to my candle, I tried to move to the other room, but not possible when your candle has a broken handle. Like riding a horse without a saddle, a Babylon without babble.  And judges without gavels.

I’m channeling my inner Poe, I’m black, but not a crow.

Stickin’ it to hip hop and poetry, this is what you get if Kriss Kross tried to flow with me.

Maybe I’m backwards, I write books in book stores - tried sliding my writing on a-shelf/ and said I published it myself/ xD

Cover’s battered, shirt on my back’s tattered.
The words in my head can beat me like an old sock/, where toes get caught/, but now around body parts that aren’t meant to wear socks/… Hands... you and your naughty thoughts/...

Diamonds Inside

I feel like there’s something inside of meee/
Like it’s playing hide and seeeek/
Gawd dammit Superman, can you get out from behind that treee/

Tip of the iceberg, someone should’ve given the tip to Titanic/
Romantic/ teasing the tip, ignore her, she becomes manic/

A planet amongst stars/ planet brags - humans dancing with the stars/

Send em’ off to orbit/, chew some gum, so when they get to Mars, breathe not morbid/

Moon tugs and pulls where the shore-is, wife no longer moons when chores neglected/
pearl necklace/ from Jared’s/ but she’s refunding your attempts of pearls in the bedroom before breakfast/ where the neck-is/…

She heads off to the gym for fitness/…
hours later,
She’s cheating on you with her friend in the diamond business/

Oh no / she’s late… bangin’ on the doors of Shane Co /   :)

Waxed Kiss

"Climaxed wit,
eyes a gift,
your lips bit,
kissed intense,
past it went.
kiss in tense,
gift a kiss,
present kiss,
kissing hence,
future tense!"
Me want Stare/
You not fair
Got a tan everywhere but there/
Waxing Moods and Waning Moons/
You trying to twerk while
Wax technician waxes your pubes.../

Why and What Was Project DeBarros 60/30 ?

TL;DR - I used rejection from a poetry press running a “marathon, 30 poems in 30 days” as motivation to create my own writing challenge of twice the amount of work, to push myself to higher heights.- DeBarros 60/30, 60 writings in 30 days!  And they called 30 poems in 30 days a “marathon” XD  Here’s the first post to this successful project:

  1. the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.

  1. the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

I’ll tell you now, those words above lit a fire under my arse, I'll tell you how -  It was sticky sweaty night at the end of August 2016 and no this was not a love scene unfolding.  I had just finished Vlogging 30 days consecutively and I was looking for another monthly challenge.

As I wiped my brow, starting to doze off, I checked my email.  I discovered a response from a poetry press, they were running a poetry 30/30 ( write one poem every day for the month of September, hence the 30 poems in 30 days)  I had applied some of my recent works and I was trying to read with one eye open while lying in the bed… I know there should be no electronics in the bed, I’ve gotten better but my phone is my night stand alarm clock.

So as I gazed upon my phone with one blurry peeper, and this was the response from the poetry press -
"Dear Adrian,

Thank you for considering our 30/30 "marathon".   I appreciate your interest and enthusiasm.
I cannot include your poems at this time,  but if this project continues (and I think it will) and you want to get a feel for what we do include and try again another year,  I will gladly consider it."

Now, this is by far not the first time I’ve been rejected, I’ve been rejected so many times in my life, I swear it seems like the spirit of Dikembe Mutombo follows me around :) No pity party for me, dammit!)

For those of you who know me, you know I’m a very competitive person, I don’t see “no” as a stop sign.  So, I took this response from the poetry press, and I was like, “ok, I reviewed the type of poetry they sponsored, and my style definitely sticks out like a sore thumb beaten with a hammer.  I get it - my writings are not traditional, no knock against anywhere I don’t fit in.”

I let small embers grow into a fire under my arse, and started to think, “ I will do twice the amount of writings their sponsored poets produce, I’ll keep to my style, but I will out work them.  I will push myself and bang out two writings every day for 30 days, hence the 60/30, 60 writings or poems in 30 days, one day I did 3 writings, I coined that 90/30, but I could only claim that if I would have done 3 writings every day for 30 days.

Project DeBarros 60/30 was successful, here’s the first post and you can follow along if you need reading material for the bathroom, bus, train, airplane, or for a spouse who won’t stop running their mouth :) :

That’s it, I’m now in the process of a new monthly challenge for the month of October.  I’ll reveal it at the end of October, in which I’ll have work to show for it :).

The moral of the story is - Turn your “no’s” into challenges, challenge yourself monthly for the greater goals in which you strive for.

Thank you if you made it all the way down here and if you read and not simply dragged the slider bar ;)

List below in the comments some ways you find motivation or how you challenge yourself, I’d like to know and learn from you!

Rooftop Redhead

Rosy Cheeks,
make-me speak,
Hiking a trail, finding your beauty has been a hiked trail.
Finding your beauty was exciting and tiring - like finding a check in the junk mail!

You hiding in a hat,
me biding for a chat.

Tongue not in, a bit out,
your face, poked fun about.

Smile from a hun, smile for fun, smiles intense - smooshed into one…
She’s a mystery, puts you in positions that normally cause misery, makes you travel the world and leave behind the world you once knew - You on a getaway with Nancy Drew..

Roof top - Tubes Topped - Bounce while drinks in shot glasses two-ounce,
drink enough makes you want to-pounce.  Jacuzzi, one peak at her curves make you woozy.
Fast forward 10 years, you fightin’ with I Love Lucy!

The Hero Within

Crown scraped, town lookin’ for escape, wishin’ for a hero who’s caped.
Midnight takes, in middle of the night, people wake, fearful of their fate.
Fear’s here, fear’s there, in everyone rests a wishful cheer.
Inside their chest, they need wake only the best.

Work harder, here comes a test,
no multiple choice, answers lie within your chest.
Nowhere to lie, get up from a falsified mess.
Digress on less, and you won’t be able to save what’s left.

What’s left when you don’t have anything left?
- - - The beating that lies within your chest…

Life - Lost and Found

No matter the height of your goal -
poles hold it up - poles take an unbiased role,
aim passionately, eagerly dress fashionably.
At the end of your role, everyone will look up and say,
“You gave everything, even your soul!”

Fear comes around when it’s your shot,
keep focus of goals - they’re on top - take your shot.

Life’s rugged, bare, and sometimes paved,
life doesn’t  always pave what’s meant.
Make life your ball - when it hits the pavement -
bounce back!

Unfazed, you scour life’s maze.  Along the way, you’ll get lost and find your way...
